Thank you for taking the time to visit the web site of Oakwood Village Continuing Care Retirement Communities. The purpose of this site is to serve as an informational resource for anyone interested in learning more about Oakwood Village, whether for residency, employment, volunteering, or providing financial support.

Oakwood Village is a Lutheran church-sponsored, not-for-profit, locally operated organization consisting of two continuing care retirement communities, Oakwood Village East and Oakwood Village West, in Madison, Wisconsin. Our long tradition of high-quality, faith-based care, our vast array of available on-campus services, events and activities, and resident access to a full continuum of care and aging-in-place services are just a few of the things that separate Oakwood from our competition.
If you have ever visited Oakwood Village East or Oakwood Village West, or know someone who lives here, you likely already have an understanding of how Oakwood differs from other retirement communities. Oakwood's commitment to creating strong, closely-knit communities on each campus and its focus on holistic care - the health of the mind, body, and spirit - can best begin to explain the warmth and sense of belonging you feel on each of our campuses.

Oakwood strongly believes the mental well-being of an individual leads to physical well-being. When a neighbor smiles and stops to talk with you, which they always do, they are filled with the joy and enthusiasm of someone who is truly pleased to see you. When you come to Oakwood, you quickly remember how easy it is to meet new people, and what a rejuvenating experience it can be. Relationships are so important in life, and it can be invigorating to join people who are just like you with whom you can share your experiences.

At Oakwood Village, we implore you to involve yourself in our large family. Each resident has an important role, serves a specific purpose, and becomes a part of who we are. Stay one day at our community and you'll see the old stereotype of retirement living is clearly a myth. Our residents remain as active as they like, and most say there is more to do on any given day than they could possibly handle, and they've never been busier. Residents at each level of care drive their own activities, and receive strong support from an events and activities staff, which plans activities and events with the input of residents and with their specific interests and abilities in mind. The services residents receive at Oakwood are ingrained into daily life at all levels of care, and are, along with a strong sense of belonging, clearly one of the biggest benefits of living at Oakwood.

Meeting the spiritual needs of our residents is an integral part of the care provided at Oakwood.
Oakwood Lutheran Homes Association, Incorporated, was founded by St. John's Lutheran Church and several other Lutheran congregations in 1948 and, although we openly welcome and embrace all denominations, Oakwood thrives today thanks to the support of 37 area Lutheran Churches. Integral to Oakwood's mission is providing for the spiritual needs of our residents and their families. Resurrection Chapel at Oakwood Village West and the Tree of Life Chapel at Oakwood Village East are the central focus on each campus, and our large pastoral care staff and wide array of nondenominational and specialized services provide the spiritual pillar many residents seek. As a valued member of a Continuing Care Retirement Community, Oakwood Village East and Oakwood Village West residents take comfort that as they age and their health needs begin to change, they will be supported by a continuum of care. All Oakwood residents receive priority access to transfer to a different location on either of our two Madison campuses, where our staff can provide the appropriate level of care required. Our community concept is enhanced by the fact that, should you need assisted living or skilled nursing, not only will you already be familiar with the facility and possess a confidence in its reputation, but you will likely be surrounded by neighbors and friends! There are only a few Continuing Care Retirement Communities in the State of Wisconsin accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities - Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, an international not-for-profit third party accreditation system for Human Service providers, and thus few retirement communities in the area can provide the sense of security and comfort Oakwood can.

The Village Store at Oakwood Village West provides residents with conveniently-located grocery shopping. The store is run by volunteers through the Oakwood Foundation's Service League.
Established in 1981, the Oakwood Foundation's mission is to attract volunteer and financial support which is committed to meeting the needs of residents at Oakwood Village. In addition to numerous activities, Oakwood offers volunteer opportunities to individuals of all abilities and interests. Whether its offering a ride to a grateful neighbor to a medical appointment, serving customers at one of our shops, or simply spending a little time with someone eager for companionship, volunteering benefits both the volunteers and recipients, and is key to elevating the quality of life for many at Oakwood. The Oakwood Foundation, which coordinates our Volunteer Program and the Oakwood Service League, also operates the Continuing Care Endowment Fund, which may be available to assist resident who deplete their own assets while paying for their care at Oakwood.
