On Saturday I came to the services for a resident who died suddenly last Monday. When I greeted their son at the service, he told me how grateful he was for all of the support from Oakwood staff during this past sad week. Then his eyes filled with tears as he told me that when he was walking with his mother in a hallway, a man from Environmental Services staff had approached them and expressed his sympathy, and that he had actually bowed to his mother. That simple gesture was extremely moving to them (as it is to me). The best part of this story is that it could have been any of our five great Environmental Services staff in the apartments – I could imagine that kind of empathy from any of them.

I have only been living here for 5 months during which time I have enjoyed meals at the Village Inn and experienced the kindness of many members of the staff here. I truly believe that every member of the entire staff here goes out of their way to be kind to the residents. Be it departments heads, receptionists, wait-staff, beauticians, nurses, housekeepers, no matter who, they make us all feel welcome, and are always friendly.

Before moving to Oakwood, our father lived in an apartment. It was a nice place, however, he was very isolated and often times very alone. After he moved into Oakwood, he was so much happier. He truly felt connected to those around him and thoroughly enjoyed a number of the evening events. I firmly believe that as a result of Oakwood's community spirit and fellowship, my father had a place he could call home and live out a full, vibrant life.
In the last year or so, as his health declined and he was less able to get about, he still enjoyed the coffee shop and all of Oakwood residents and staff. We are very grateful that our father was able to have good days even in that last year. Our father truly lived out the last 8 years of his life in the best way possible.
Please know that we really appreciate all of the staff's effort to make our father's life enjoyable and safe. Take care and god bless you and the Oakwood staff.

I had a lovely rehabilitation/recovery experience after my total knee replacement surgery. All the various staff, personnel and the nurses & CNAs were considerate, respectful, pleasant, often humorous and patient. I hope to be able to return when I have my next knee replacement!

This has been one of the hardest years I’ve ever been through and I don’t know how we would have gotten out the other end without the love and support of Oakwood. It is just a top notch home – while it’s a business, it really feels like a home and family to me. Everyone has been so kind and helpful and it’s one of the few places today where people take time to listen if you have a problem and work to help you resolve it. The halls are filled with cheer and the staff is simply UNBELIEVABLE from the maintenance folks I say ‘hi’ to in the hall, to those staffing entrance/info desks, to the pastoral care department, to the social workers, to all the Covenant staff: the ones I know by name and the caregivers from the middle of the night that we never see. I keep all the wonderful folks that make Oakwood run in my prayers of thanks.

My mother moved to Oakwood at a difficult time just months after my father had died. The move proved to be the opportunity of a lifetime where she could meet new friends, enjoy the activities and go on outings. Plus, her apartment was beautiful and she was very proud of it. As her health failed her dependable friends kept up the contact as she moved through Oakwood Seasons, Oakwood Knoll and finally the Health and Rehabilitation Center. Our family is grateful for the wonderful, compassionate care she received during her last few years and for the opportunity to remain in the comfortable, familiar surroundings of Oakwood Village East.
