It's your health.IT'S OUR CALLING.

True wellness isn’t simply about good nutrition and optimal physical activity—though these form the cornerstones of life at Oakwood. For us, it’s also about engagement of the mind, spirit and body. This plays out in numerous ways at every level of care with continuing education programs, numerous and varied life-enrichment options, social events and simple day-to-day interactions with people who care deeply. We emphasize successful aging and help individuals sustain their highest possible levels of well-being.

  • Pharmacy & Clinic

The Oakwood Pharmacy, located on the University Woods campus, and serving both Oakwood communities, provides competitively-priced prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, home health products and a variety of medication assistance devices and services. Pharmacy staff members are especially knowledgeable about the proper use of medications for older adults, and that knowledge is enhanced by their familiarity with individual residents. The pharmacy offers educational services and medication consultation and assessment. Medications can be delivered to residents’ apartments or through direct care staff.

The Health and Wellness Clinic, located on each campus, is staffed by a variety of health care providers throughout the week and offers residents a variety of services including acupuncture, audiology, chiropractic, dental, podiatry and massage services.

  • Spiritual Life

As part of Oakwood Lutheran Senior Ministries, Oakwood Village pays special attention to helping residents and their families meet their spiritual needs. Our pastoral care staff draws on the rich spiritual foundation of the sponsoring congregations of area Lutheran churches and the various faith traditions of our residents. Chapels on both campuses offer a wide array of denominational, nondenominational and specialized services, including Protestant services, Roman Catholic Mass and Shabbat.

“You can learn so much from our residents. They tell stories that teach, and they have lived such interesting lives. I love to be around them.”

Kristi, CNA

“Oakwood has a skilled nursing facility with a full therapy department on both of its campuses. Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy are offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. ”

“The new generation of retirees have read all the studies and understand you need to take a 'use it or lose it' approach to mobility and physical fitness. These courses are becoming a part of our society and the aging process, which is a good thing.”

Liz, Independent Living Life Enrichment Coordinator at Prairie Ridge

“Oakwood is blessed with a positive reputation and strong culture that puts residents first. There's a commitment here to emphasize person-centered care, and an understanding that it is an ongoing process.”

Kathy, Oakwood Lutheran Senior Ministries' Quality Improvement Coach

“This is a slower, more mindful approach to exercising. I've found residents really appreciate learning about the exercises and how it benefits them.”

Alex, Physical Wellness Coordinator at University Woods

“In addition to worship services, Oakwood offers residents the opportunity to explore their faith further through programs like Bible studies, Bible history courses, prayer service, hymn sings and much more.”
